Oerol Festival 2021 is canceled

Unfortunately, in close consultation with the municipality of Terschelling and the Safety Region Fryslân, we have had to decide to cancel the Festival

For a long time, Oerol was convinced that Oerol could continue in a physical way in 2021, safe for the island, visitors, makers and employees. But we also have to face that this was on the condition that there would be improvement in the corona situation.

Given the pressure on the police, care on the island and beyond, it is not justified to organize the Oerol Festival on Terschelling in June. Safety for everyone is of course paramount.

The complete program for Oerol 2021 has already been prepared, the rehearsals have already started. However, we couldn't help but risk organizing a Festival that was unsure whether it could go ahead. We have never considered doing nothing and waiting.

What now

We understand the disappointment of everyone who was so looking forward to this, and the same goes for Oerol. Together with our programmers, we will make a plan for what is possible.

The program programmed on Imagine Your Island (Het Imaginaire Eiland), Oerol's specially developed online platform, will take place anyway.

Oerol Laboratory

In the interest of the progress of artistic development, an Oerol Laboratory around the concept of location theater will take place with a number of makers in the period from 16-20 June (within the possibilities offered by the Government's Opening Plan). So that the makers' developments can continue.

Het Imaginaire Eiland will play an important role for this Oerol Laboratory.

Further information

New developments are announced via our website and newsletters.

Do you already have an wristband? Then you will receive the money back to your bank account shortly. Do you still have credit on your Mijn Oerol account? You can use this to buy a ticket for Het Imaginaire Eiland. The credit that you have not used will be refunded after the Festival.

The office will be closed on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 April, the organization will take a break. We say to everyone: hang on. We will get out of this and the arts always go on.
