Niels Nieuborg and Thijs Weijland new music programmers Oerol

As of 1 February 2022, Niels Nieuborg and Thijs Weijland have been installed as new music programmers of Oerol

The pair takes over from Peter Reen and Peter Dijkstra.

The duo Nieuborg and Weijland was put together by Oerol. The programmers join forces for the music programming of Oerol Festival, which takes place from 10 to 19 June 2022 on Terschelling. Oerol is pleased to add their expertise to the program team. The program team, led by Sabine Pater, also consists of Marin de Boer, Farnoosh Farnia, Wendy Moonen and Kees Lesuis (artistic director).

Different musical backgrounds

The new programmers have different musical backgrounds. Previously Nieuborg (1979) took care of the music programming for MC Theater and North Sea Jazz Club in Amsterdam, among other things. He has a penchant for non-Western music. "I hope I can make a nice addition to the music programming of Oerol, especially in the area of unknown sounds on the dance floor," Nieuborg said.

Weijland (1983) often came to Oerol as a visitor and volunteer. He founded the queer collective Supernature, which curated a day at festival site De Betonning in 2018 and 2019. He is at home in the singer-songwriter genre and in club music. Weijland: "Working for Oerol brings together the past 20 years of my life for me. I started as a theater student and from there I rolled into the music and festival world. Oerol is the perfect combination of all this. I can't wait to contribute to the Festival."

In the coming weeks, Oerol will bring out names from the program through its online channels. The complete Oerol Festival program, including music programming, will be known on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
