Specific criteria

Specific criteria Oerol’s programme is characterised by a number of strands. It is not possible to apply for the music programme and the street theatre programme, as the programmers scout the acts for these strands themselves. The programme sections Theatre Programme and Passport Programme cover all other initiatives in the field of theatre, art, landscape art or performance. There are specific criteria for each of these:

Theatre

The theatre programme offers space for (multi-discipline) projects that have a location-specific character. The location will play an important role in the piece, either as the place where the performance takes place, or the source of inspiration for this. The relationship of the work to the location is an essential consideration in the choice of whether to programme the project. The theatre programme consists of some 40 productions, programmed on a a box-office basis. Audiences must buy tickets for these productions. The income from the sale of these tickets (takings) is used to finance this programme section (see the box explaining the takings system). Urgency will play a significant role in the assessment of your proposal: why Oerol and why now? We also consider the production’s relationship to the theme. The theatre programme is finalised in December.

Passport

This free programme section is for projects from all disciplines, as well as crossovers. They are small-scale, continuous projects the audience can visit by showing their Oerol Passports. These could be (short) performances, objects, theatrical films and/or visual or audio installations. Together, these projects make up a number of routes, that can be followed (entirely or partly) by bicycle. The projects on these routes run every day from 11h00 to 17h00, continuously.

Practical considerations:

  • Continuous performance/artwork (daily between 11h00 and 17h00)
  • Present every day of the festival (Friday 15 through Sunday 24 June 2012)
  • Production/artwork is open to the public from Saturday 16 through Sunday 24 June 2012.
  • Duration of the performance will be, depending on the number of visitors, 1 to 15 minutes or continuous.
  • Easy to install and self-supporting in terms of technical & production requirements.
  • Any audience supervision will be carried out by the Group itself. Only audience with a passport will have access to the project.
  • A budget of € 200 per day played is available, i.e. a total of € 1,800 per project.
  • Boat journey, accommodation (campsite) and dinner will be provided by Oerol (max. 3 people per project)

Atelier Oerol /OPMAAT

Atelier Oerol invites young theatre-makers and artists to take part in the ‘Location, Landscape, Theatre’ session, from November 2011 to June 2012. The first phase of this project is the workshop week on Terschelling, in which experienced artists from a range of areas discuss the possibilities offered by location-specific projects. In February and March, two weekends will be spent on the island, during which the plans for the ‘Opmaten’ (presentation and working out of a performance, presentation or installation, lasting 20 minutes). During the two weeks prior to the festival, work will take place on the ‘Opmaten’ on the island, and the ‘Opmaat Route 2.0’ will then be presented during the Oerol 2012.
