General criteria

General criteria All applications are subject to the following criteria:

  • Owing to the large number of applications received, Oerol is unable to correspond and/or discuss concrete issues with everyone personally. Inclusion in the programme is strictly by invitation only.
  • In making our selection, we look at the originality, quality and expressiveness of the plans and at the necessity for the project in question to be performed on Terschelling during Oerol.
  • The application must fit the general context of Oerol and its criteria – there are also separate, specific criteria for each programme.
  • Applications must be received before 1 December; applications received after this date cannot be considered. The earlier you mail, the better.
  • We will contact you by 23 December, but only if we are interested in discussing your proposal further.
  • Applications must be made using the application form.
  • To prevent disappointment, read the criteria for applying for the various programme sections carefully before submitting your application!

Applications may be considered if they fulfil the following criteria:

1. The proposed activities must be geared to the location and contribute to the development of location-specific and theatre in the landscape or landscape art.
2. Your proposal must include a clear and thorough plan, concisely formulated.
3. You have taken Oerol’s financial preconditions into account in the plan (takings policy, passport criteria).

Exclusions

1. Oerol does not, in principle, programme ‘black box’ productions.
2. Oerol does not generally programme revivals.
3. Oerol does not programme projects that do not fulfil our financial preconditions.

Complied with the criteria, but still rejected!

In view of the large number of applications we receive and the limited number of locations available, we have to make hard decisions. It may therefore happen that an initiative complies with all the criteria, but nevertheless has to be rejected. The motives for such a rejection could be:

  • Other productions within the same discipline or programme section are preferred.
  • Oerol has already programmed one or more similar initiatives.
  • There are considerations concerning the placing of accents within the programme and the diversity of disciplines. We may have chosen another initiative on these grounds.
