Travelling to and on Terschelling Travel to Harlingen
A visit to Oerol starts with a trip to Terschelling. We advise you to travel to the Harlingen Haven station by train. From there, the departure hall of Rederij Doeksen is just 100 meters away. Once again, the NS will deploy trains with extra space for bicycles so you can bring those along. To plan your trip and buy your train tickets online, visit the website of the NS .
If you choose to travel to Harlingen by car, be aware of the fact that the amount of parking spaces has been decreased and it will therefore be more difficult to find a parking space in Harlingen. You can park your car outside of Harlingen, for example in Zurich, after which you can take a taxi to Harlingen Haven courtesy of Taxi van der Pol: phone: +31 517 415 555.

You can also take a festival bus to Oerol, they depart from the Randstad regularly. See the festival bus website for more information.

Getting across
Tickets for the ferry service from and to the island can be booked online or by telephone through Rederij Doeksen using the telephone number +31 900-DOEKSEN (3635736) or using the website of Rederij Doeksen . The schedule can be found through the online travel planner.
During the festival, all information regarding the schedule can also be found at the information points on the Westerkeyn festival terrain and in the harbor. Please be advised to schedule your return trip well in advance. You can however change your ticket online, by telephone or in person at the Doeksen desk in the ticket service tent at the Westerkeyn terrain, which is open from the first Sunday of the festival until the last Saturday of the festival from 10.00 until 14.00.

Transportation and Navigation on the island
The most convenient way to travel on the island is by bicycle, as some shows cannot be reached by public transportation. Bikes can be rented from the moment you step off the boat. It isn’t possible to reserve bicycles in advance during the Oerol festival period, so make sure to seize the moment when you arrive!
In order to find your way to the passport projects and the locations of the performances, GPS coordinates are included in the bicycle map that comes with your passport. But even without using a GPS system, you’re sure to find your way: Oerol is renowned for its unique signage system.
Naturally, you can also take the bus traveling between West and Oosterend. And later in the day, a night bus goes between the hours of 21.00 and 02.00!
If you have taken your own car with you, keep in mind that some roads are closed to traffic and remember to only park in the designated areas. At the harbor square in West-Terschelling, taxis and busses stand by to transport you to anywhere on the island.

Accommodations on Terschelling Spending the night on Terschelling during Oerol
There are a number of options for spending a night on Terschelling: in a hotel, a cabin, trailer or on a camping site. The hotels, cabins and trailers usually are reserved early in the year to loyal or new visitors of Oerol. The local tourism board called the VVV will know if anything still is available. Most of the camping sites on Terschelling will have a couple of spaces left, but better be safe than sorry and make sure to reserve a spot!

At the VVV you’ll find information about accommodation, the island and maps for hiking and cycling trips, as well as train and bus tickets for your return trip. Besides that, the VVV also sells Oerol passports and posters. The VVV is open Monday through Friday from 9.30 until 17.30 and on Saturday from 10.00 until 15.00. During the festival, the VVV will also be open on Sunday from 11.00 until 14.00. VVV , Willem Barentszkade 19a, West-Terschelling, telephone: +31 562 443000.
