Van Buul & Vriens - Zandlumen
Zandlumen is a surreal video installation in the dunes.
Become submerged in a fantasy world. An environment full of
alienation with peculiar, sometimes nasty, warped images. A world
in the dunes in which you can wander freely after dark, explore and
let the images and sounds reach out to you. Watch the trailer from Zandlumen part one at Oerol 2010.

Atelier Oerol
Atelier Oerol is the moniker under which Oerol presents all of its development activities. We undertake these activities to ensure we’re involved with all the developments happening in the fields of land art and location theatre and to promote and enhance the knowledge of the disciplines of the arts.
Furthermore, the Atelier is an important part of Oerol’s ambition to co-produce on an international scale. Many shows that were developed on Terschelling go on tours to festivals abroad because of the great interest these shows tend to generate.
The production platform Atelier Oerol comprises a Workplace for young artists and a co-production and residence function. The Atelier has its own Board of Advisors, which consists of specialists from Flanders and the Netherlands, who help Oerol in making plans for the future.
The Workplace is an important breeding ground for young, talented theatre makers and artists. It’s a place to experiment, a starting point from which the theatre show or performance is made. Oerol offers the artists who are in the Workplace expertise and support on an artistic, financial and productional level.
Using the co-production and residence functions, we co-operate with several European partners in order to develop new projects to be shown at a variety of festivals. This way, we manage to give the development of land art and location theatre a boost, not only content-wise but also in the matter of reaching a wider audience.
Since December 2009 we’ve secured the Brand shed at Kinnum to be used as a physical workspace where the activities of Atelier Oerol can take place throughout the year.

Workplace for young artists
Oerol is firmly committed to co-operation with young theatre makers. The festival attracts an inquisitive audience and the island offers young artists endless possibilities to search for their own relationship with location theatre while battling the elements.
Under supervision of renowned theatre makers, young artists conceive a location based theatre show or performing art project for the festival in the Workplace of Atelier Oerol.
Using the Brand shed as a base, the makers learn to use the multi-faceted landscape of Terschelling in combination with the unpredictable elements to their advantage.
A new generation of theatre makers who have made a name for themselves both nationally and abroad have started out in the Workplace. For example: Lotte van den Berg, Jetse Batelaan, Boukje Schweigman, Teun Mosk, Guido Kleene, Gienke Deuten and many others.
Also some internationally acclaimed theatre groups and artists such as de Lunatics, de Jongens, Wende Snijders, Nynke Laverman and TUIG have made a perfornce in the Workplace of Oerol.
Developing a show on Terschelling
Many theatre makers and artists have an idea for a project or a show tailor made for Oerol: on the beach, in the dunes or using the elements.
The natural décor of Oerol, the island Terschelling inspires very special productions that titillate, surprise, seduce and move the audience.
Some ideas start out small and end on the South Pole, like the project of tractor girl Manon Ossevoort during Oerol 2005. Other projects already begin large, like the project “Walking” by Robert Wilson, Boukje Schweigman and Theun Mosk during Oerol 2008.
These and all other productions that have been conceived on Terschelling especially for and in co-operation with Oerol have been gathered under the banner Atelier Oerol since 2009.
