Passport 2011

To mark the festival’s anniversary year, the passport programme was integrated with the programme book. A cycle map showing the locations of the various projects was included in the detachable cover of the programme book. But of course there was also room to collect all the original stamps given out by the various projects!

For example, visitors could clothe themselves in the mirages conjured up by Jonna Klumpenaar en Marieke Rombout in their production Dijk Confetti [Dike Confetti], a small, light and airy party on the dike. Or undergo the dilemma experienced by mariner and explorer Willem Barentsz, whose extreme choices were re-enacted by the audience and young Hungarian theatre-makers Tamás Ördög and Emoke Kiss-Végh. In the project De Zee Roept [The Call of the Sea], Meindert Talma also serenaded contemporary Willem Barentszens, between intimate portraits of these students at Terschelling’s maritime academy.

Those looking for a more active role could control one of Giulia Mureddu’s dancers using the Wii, in their production Play. Vereniging Natuurmomenten once again were inspired by the splendour of nature and discovered, with their audiences, the economic value of a piece of woodland. The passport also gave access to Wim Staessen and Frans van de Horst’s special jubilee project, which brought the most exceptional Oerol stories of the past thirty years to our ears.
